I’m going to start telling about the name and theme of my expansion.
The name is Storm Opera. It’s a tribute for a expansion of one card game that I loved, but is over now. The theme of the card game expansion is a very similar to mine.
Storm Opera presents the themes of two deserts crashing. In the south, the sand desert, lair of the three Pharaoh Pokemons. At the north, the ice desert, where lives the tree glacial prince pokemons.
The Pharaoh and sand desert theme feature a mechanic called “The Power of the Sun”, a game variable that is initially inactive, but there are cards that make The Power of the Sun active, and some pokemons that get bonus and special effects in its moves if this variable is active.
The Glacial and Ice Desert theme features the Special Condition called Frozen. The rules of Frozen are the same of Sleep, with one difference. If a frozen pokemon is hit by a fire type damage, the frozen stops.
There is also a little bit more.
The Baby pokemon returns, but very different, with a new mechanic: The Breeding Bonus. It’s a mechanic that I planned for my own card game (that has very different and more complex rules), that benefit the player if he try to evolve a Basic pokemon from a Baby instead of putting the basic pokemon direct. If the player use a Baby Pokemon and he successful evolve him to Basic form, this form gain HP bonus or new moves or new pokemon powers or pokebody’s or other things.
And the last new mechanics is the difference between PokeBody and Pokemon Power. Both are present in the cards. PokeBody usually are passive effects that don’t vanish is the pokemon is in a Special Condition. Pokemon Power are passive or active effects that cannot be used if the pokemon is in a Special Condition.
And is this. I think this is a real expansion of a card game, because it brings new mechanics and new rules, instead of only new prints of pokemon with no new strategy possibilities involved.
Next time I will show some of them.
